I have installed this twice in my VW Touareg. Once 9 months ago, and again recently. I found that surprisingly, the old filter was pretty dirty, and it definitely needed to be changed. It had a few bits of grit, but mostly just darkened by grey dust. It was very easy to install, but I needed a youtube video to learn the tricks of how to get at it. You need a Torx T5 for a few screws, and you need to know how to release the clips that hold it all together.Having removed a VW Factory OEM filter the first time I did the filter replacement, I can say that this aftermarket filter is similar in quality and construction. I found that it's NOT important whether it's OEM or aftermarket, but what's important is just that you REPLACE it. This filter can easily be overlooked if you get your oil-changes done at an independent shop, but rest assured, doing it yourself is quick and easy, and will save you lots of $. I've seen dealerships advertise the filter change for $99, which is ridiculous for a $12 part and a 10-minute job like this. Good luck.
